We are hiring a Controller to join the finance team in Whately, MA. You will serve a key role in maintaining the integrity of financial data and will support the Company s overall financial health. You will report directly to the CFO while supervising 2 other employees. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, reconciliation, journal entries, monthly close, and accounts payable and receivable, assist leadership with metric improvements and key financial decisions.

Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight & Reporting
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, reconciliation, journal entries, monthly close, and accounts payable and receivable, assist leadership with metric improvements and key financial decisions
- Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, cross train on processing payroll, partner with HR to ensure employees receive the correct amount per pay period
- Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, team and organizational budgets, and actual expenditures
- Maintain proper documentation and retention of financial records, compliance with GAAP and both national and local tax regulations, understand the company s legal requirements to maintain strong financial standing
- Provide financial support and feedback on capital projects, pricing decisions, and cost-benefit analyses
Systems Optimization
- Serve as the finance lead for ERP optimization (NetSuite highly preferred)
- Continue to streamline financial reporting, dashboards, and workflows
- Partner to determine ERP-related best practices and ensure alignment with corporate policies
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Implement and enforce robust internal controls across finance and operational activities, identifying key risks and proposing mitigation strategies accordingly
- Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies and procedures in accordance with best practices and regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and audit requirements, serve as primary contact for financial audit inquiries
- Maintain confidentiality and data security across all finance activities
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Act as a financial partner to and collaborate effectively with all departments across multiple locations
- Comprehend physical and perpetual inventory processes, reports, turnover, and valuation
- Ensure accurate asset tracking, capitalization, and depreciation schedules
- Translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Agribusiness, Ag Econ, Agriculture Economics, or related field in agriculture, horticulture, food production is preferred; CPA or CMA preferred
- Strong professional accounting experience, including cost or plant accounting, standard costing, variance analysis, inventory control, and manufacturing finance
- Strong hands-on ERP experience (NetSuite preferred); proficiency in financial reporting tools
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis, managing payroll, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes
- Exemplary history of financial project management, system upgrades, and process reengineering
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and present actionable insights
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address challenges proactively and strategically
- Proven accuracy and integrity in handling sensitive financial information and maintaining organizational trust
